iVanky Displayport to HDMI Adapter | Review

I’ve got through quite a few thunderbolt to HDMI adapters over the years, most of which I use to provide a second screen for my iMac. The problem I’ve had is that none of them seems to be very good. The first one broke pretty quickly, while the second didn’t last too long either. So here I am, trying a third in the shape of the iVanky Displayport to HDMI Adapter.

One of the first things I noticed about this adapter is that it seems to be very well made. It has a sturdy feel, to its thick, braided, bendable cable which on first look almost assures you it won’t be breaking anytime soon. iVanky also seems pretty confident in the quality of its products. For instance, the box boasts “each product will go through at least two full inspections and two sampling inspections before delivery.” This is also backed up by an unconditional lifetime warranty, so even if it does break, getting a replacement shouldn’t be too difficult.

The specs for the iVanky Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter converter are just as impressive. The adapter supports up to 1920×1080p resolution, is compatible with plug and play and works on a multitude of devices from MacBook Air, MacBook Pro (before 2016), iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, Microsoft Surface Pro/Pro 2/Pro 3/Pro 4, Surface 3, Surface Book, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 and most laptops with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt interface.

To be honest there’s not too much more to say in terms of performance that the specs don’t over. I simply plugged the cable into my iMac’s Thunderbolt port, hooked up the HDMI cable and it all pretty much worked perfectly.

Sure there may be cheaper leads out there which do the same job, but I get the feeling none of them are going to last quite as long as the iVanky.
